Energy markets often fall under a certain political influence which in turn leads to geopolitical instability.

Georgian Energy Minister Kakha Kaladze made the remark at the opening of the 13th Georgian International Oil, Gas, Infrastructure and Energy Conference.

"International energy markets have undergone significant changes in recent years. The demand for energy resources is growing every day and against the background of limited reserves, this factor causes rise in prices," he said.

Kaladze said on this basis, intensification of the existing energy cooperation becomes vital for ensuring energy security of states.

Saying that Georgia is a reliable energy partner, he stressed that the development of the Southern Gas Corridor project is important for the country.

"Implementation of the Southern Gas Corridor project is recognized as one of the most important tasks of the EU energy strategy, and with implementation of this project, European countries will be able to satisfy their ever-growing need for energy resources," Kaladze said.

The Southern Gas Corridor is an initiative of the European Commission for the gas supply from Caspian and Middle Eastern regions to Europe.
