The Armenian government continues increasing tariffs for communal services and now the population is waiting for rises in water services.

According to local media, soon one cubic meter of water will cost 200 drams instead of the current 174 drams.

CJSC Yerevanjur , the Armenian subsidiary of Veolia Water that manages Yerevan's water and sewerage systems , has already submitted a corresponding application to the Armenian Public Services Regulatory Commission.

"It is noteworthy that after the decision to increase tariffs for gas and electricity, the authorities maximally tried not to publicize the news, in order to present all the bad information to the public gradually, that is, by turns," Zhoghovurd Newspaper reported.

The official exchange rate on June 12 was 411.2 AMD / USD.

Earlier, the Armenian authorities and the management of Armrusgazprom agreed upon a price rise of up to 35 percent. Thus, for users consuming up to 10,000 cubic meters of gas per month each 1,000 cubic meters of gas will be sold for about 180,000 drams (about $430) instead of 132,000 drams.

Armenian media reported that the price for Russian gas supplied to Armenia will reach $280 per 1,000 cubic meters and $320 from January 1, 2014. However, Armrusgasprom neither confirmed nor denied the reports.

Also, the Public Services Regulatory Commission of Armenia approved the new tariffs of electricity according which it will rise in price by more than 25%.
