Uzbekistan, Russia exchange views on cooperation

Delegations of foreign ministries of Uzbekistan and Russia exchanged views on actual issues of bilateral cooperation in the framework of the CIS during next round of ministerial consultations held in Tashkent, the Uzbek Foreign Ministry reported.

The two sides also discussed preparations for the meeting of the CIS Council of Foreign Ministers in Tashkent.

Relations between Uzbekistan and Russia are characterized as strategic partnership in a wide range of interaction - in the political, economic and humanitarian areas.

The Russian Federation is one of the largest trade partners of Uzbekistan while Uzbekistan occupies the fourth place among the CIS countries on volumes of trade turnover for Russia.

The commodity structure of Russian exports to Uzbekistan include mineral products, machines, equipment and vehicles, metals and products from them, timber and pulp and paper products, chemical products, foodstuffs and agricultural raw materials.

The commodity structure of imports of basic supplies include such groups of goods as textiles and glassware, shoes, machinery and equipment and vehicles, foodstuffs and agricultural raw materials, chemical products, metals and products from them.

The largest Russian oil and gas companies operate successfully and effectively in Uzbekistan.

Over 900 joint enterprises with Russian partners, representative offices of 85 Russian firms and companies operate in Uzbekistan. The investment cooperation develops consistently. In recent years, Russian investment in Uzbekistan's economy amounted to more than $6 billion.
