Iran seizes 135 tons of drugs

Iran's police officers seized some 135 tons of illegal drugs in the past three months.

Head of Iran's Drugs Police Ali Moayedi said in the meantime 92,000 people have been arrested across the country on drugs-related charges, Fars news agency reported on June 24.

There, 80,000 cases have been filed and 650 drugs bands have been disbanded, he said.

The captured amount of drugs shows 25 percent growth, according to Moayedi.

Ten dealers were killed, 25 wounded, and 525 anti-smuggle battles carried out mostly in the eastern country, he said, adding that the anti-drug operations in eastern Iran grew by 41 percent in the mentioned period.

He further said addiction among Iranian women is on the rise.
