An event on "Azerbaijani-Japanese energy friendship" has been held in Tokyo.

Co-organized by the Japanese INPEX Corporation and Azerbaijan's Embassy to Japan, the event brought together officials of Japanese Cabinet of Ministers, Ministries of Economy, Trade and Industry, students of Waseda University and the Media.

Azerbaijan's Ambassador to Japan Gursel Ismayilzaddelivered a presentation on vision to Azerbaijan's economy. Ismayilzade provided an insight into economic growth of Azerbaijan, promotion of non-oil sector, large-scale projects, as well as ties of both countries.

Adviser to the Cabinet of Ministers of Japan Takeo Hirata applauded developing ties between the two countries.

Prior to the event, Ismayilzade has met President and CEO of INPEX Corporation Toshiaki Kitamura. The ambassador highlighted Azerbaijan's economic development over the last years, as well as large-scale projects carried out in the region.

The diplomat spoke of the current state of Azerbaijani-Japanese relations and stressed the importance of reciprocal visits in boosting ties. On importance of the Japanese officials’ visit to Azerbaijan, the ambassador also emphasized the significance of arranging the visit of businessmen to the country.

Kitamura, in turn, said he was interested in energy projects of Azerbaijan, as well as long-term participation in the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline project.

Diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Japan were established in 1992. Relations between the two countries have continued to develop steadily. Japan was one of the first countries to support Azerbaijan's forward-looking oil strategy.

Today two major Japanese companies Itochu and Impex are involved in the Contract of the Century. Leaders of Japanese business, Mitsubishi, Mitsui, Marubeni, and Sojits are involved in energy and infrastructure projects in the country.

Azerbaijan is considering further cooperation with Japan in the field of high technology, particularly in the field of manufacture of innovative production, with their further entering the regional markets.

So far, Japanese companies were involved mainly in projects in the energy sector, but in recent years their interests to cooperate in areas such as petrochemicals, oil refining, energy, medicine, high-tech and space industry have increased.
