Nagorno-Karabakh conflict to be key topic of OSCE head's Baku visit

The OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Leonid Kozhara will visit Azerbaijan next week.

The visit of the OSCE chairperson is scheduled for July 7-8, Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry Spokesman Elman Abdullayev told Trend on July 5.

According to him, the main topic of the talks will be the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, as well as bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Ukraine.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 per cent of Azerbaijan since 1992, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the U.S. are currently holding peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council's four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.

The Speaker of the Croatian Parliament arrived in Baku tonight. The purpose of the visit is to discuss the issues of bilateral cooperation and participation at the official reception on the occasion of country's accession to the EU.
