UN rep to get acquainted with situation of IDPs in Georgia

UN Special Rapporteur Chaloka Beyani will be in Georgia from June 10 - 14 to get acquainted with the situation of internally displaced persons and to gather information on the measures taken by the authorities for improving the situation of IDPs, the Georgian office of the UN told Trend news agency on June 10.
According to the information, the UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights of Internally Displaced Persons Chaloka Beyani will hold meetings with representatives of government and civil society within the framework of his visit to Georgia.
He will visit the places of settlement of internally displaced persons, as well as meet the representatives of the local authorities.
"During the visit, I will conduct the review of implementation of recommendations made by my predecessor in 2010," Beyani told journalists on the eve of his trip.
He added that he will get acquainted with the process of the "supposed changes in the legislation regulating the situation of internally displaced persons in Georgia."
The special rapporteur will present his report on the results of the visit to Georgia to the UN Human Rights Council in May 2014.
