Nabucco project progressing in land acquisition process in Turkey

The Nabucco pipeline consortium will commence activities pursuant to the "decision of public utilities" concerning the pipeline route within the boundaries of Turkey, the company reported on Thursday.

Nabucco Gas Pipeline International (NIC) stressed that this is a very important step in the progress of Nabucco project that allows approval by Turkey’s energy ministry for Nabucco's application in a resolution dated February 14.

The decision is a prerequisite to initiate Land Acquisition activities and recognizes that the project is in public benefit, NIC says.

NIC plans to initiate land acquisition studies, which will be performed in the frame of the decision, for stations and facilities on the pipeline route subject to public utility.

Nabucco gas pipeline project is designed to transport gas from the Caspian region and Middle East to the European countries.

Gas to be produced during the second phase of Azerbaijani Shah Deniz gas condensate field development is considered as the main source for the project.

The construction of Nabucco pipeline with maximum capacity of 31 billion cubic meters is planned to start in 2013 and its first supplies are scheduled for 2017.

The pipeline is expected to run through Turkey, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary and Austria.

The shareholders of Nabucco project are Bulgarian Energy Holding, Romanian Transgaz, Turkish Botas, Austrian OMV, German RWE and Hungary's FGSZ.
