SOCAR closes representation in Austria
By Rashid Shirinov
Azerbaijan’s state-owned company SOCAR has closed its official representation in Vienna (Austria), Head of the office Gulmirza Javadov said on October 4 in a letter sent to the media.
The letter states that the closing of representation is related to the reforms and restructuring in SOCAR.
“Due to the restructuration in the company, the representative office in Vienna and other offices of SOCAR in relevant countries have been liquidated and are no longer functional,” the letter reads. “However, the offices of SOCAR Trading company, as well as foreign ‘daughters’ of SOCAR, will continue the normal operation.”
The decision to suspend the activities of all foreign representations of SOCAR was made back in December 2015.
SOCAR is involved in exploring oil and gas fields, producing, processing, and transporting oil, gas, and gas condensate, as well as oil and chemical products in domestic and international markets, and supplying natural gas to the industry and the public in Azerbaijan.
The company invests billions of dollars annually in transportation’s infrastructures and is involved in projects designed to increase Europe's energy security through diversification of natural gas.
