Commenting on the issue MP Fuad Mammedov said that the main objective of creating such a clause is to improve the legislative base in this sphere.

The changes to the legislature of the country will be taken in accordance with the recommendations of the World Anti-Doping Agency.

Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Ismayil Ismayilov in his turn noted that the problem of performance-enhancing drug use exists in an entire world and the struggle against the problem is of great importance. Nevertheless, the process of tackling the problem should be implemented fairly. He also underlined that certain medicines and analgesic drugs also contain stimulants mentioning that the issue needs clarifying. He stressed the need to strengthen the control over the sale of such drugs.

Addressing the meeting he spoke about accusations in doping use brought against Azerbaijani athletes. He said that 24 athletes representing Azerbaijan have been recently unfairly accused in doping use.

The deputy minister stressed that the use of doping drugs by adolescents is fraught with serious consequences which may negatively influence the country’s gene pool.

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) which was established in 1999 is an international independent agency composed and funded equally by the sport movement and governments of the world.

Main objective of the agency is to provide doping-free sporting environment.
