The Memorial Museum of the People's Artist Azim Azimzade has solemnly opened in Baku after renovation.

Speaking at the event, the museum Director Irada Azimzade talked about the activities of the cultural institution.

It was noted that the decision to establish the Azim Azimzade Museum was made in 1965, and it began to operate in 1968.

"Now, after renovation, the museum again opens its doors to visitors. Our duty is to convey our culture, the treasury of creative personalities to future generations," she said.

In his speech, the Culture Minister Abulfas Garayev noted that Azim Azimzade was one of the personalities who left an important mark in the Azerbaijani school of painting, Trend Life reported.

Being one of the first figures to be awarded the high title of "People's Artist of Azerbaijan", Azimzade etched his name in the chronicle of Azerbaijani art. Preserving the heritage of such individuals is important for presenting Azerbaijani history and culture to future generations.

Head of the Nasimi District Executive Power, Asif Asgarov, stressed that the Azim Azimzade Museum is a significant cultural center.

The Secretary of the Azerbaijan Union of Artists Aghali Ibrahimov and the People's Artist Arif Huseynov also spoke about the creativity of Azim Azimzade.

Azimzade was a master of satirical drawing, who played a great role in the history of the Azerbaijani graphics. He was the founder of the school of caricaturists of Azerbaijan.

The artist was born in 1884 in the family of an oil worker. His father wanted to see him a religious leader and enrolled his son in a theological school. However, young Azim was fond of painting. Without a special art education, he worked in the genres of satirical graphics, illustration, political posters, and theatrical scenery. Since 1906, he began to work in "Molla Nasraddin", the first satirical magazine in the East.

Azimzade also published his works in a number of other magazines such as "Mezeli", "Bidzh", "Kelniyyet" and others. In 1914, he illustrated the collection of "Hophopname" satirical poems by Mirza Alakbar Sabir. Azimzade also draw pictures for the works of Abdurrahim bey Hagverdiyev, Nariman Narimanov, Huseyngulu Sarabski, etc.

A street in Baku, a museum and an art school, where Azimzade once taught and was director from 1932 to 1937, are named after him.
