Last week, the national rail transport operator opened another representative office in Astana, Kazakhstan. Head of JSC Javid Gurbanov believes that the new office will facilitate both Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan: "Opening of the office in Kazakhstan is aimed at further development of relations between the two countries in the railway sector."

Kazakhstan has made significant progress in the railway sphere, and large investments are being made in it, he noted. “Just last year, 1.2 million containers from China were transported through Kazakhstan. Therefore, we need to study the country’s experience in this field.”

Head of Azerbaijan Railways also mentioned that after the opening of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, Azerbaijan Railways plans to transport cargos from Kazakhstan to Turkey and Europe. “Therefore, it is very important to have a representation of Azerbaijan Railways in this country."

Moreover, Azerbaijani logistics center built by Azersun Holding will soon open in Kazakhstan.

Azerbaijan Railways already has representative offices in Russia, Georgia, Turkey, Ukraine and other countries, and new regional offices, which will contribute to even greater regional trade and expansion of the company, are expected to open soon.

Speaking on the matter, Javid Gurbanov said Azerbaijan Railways may open its representation in Iran. It may happen after the launch of the Nakhchivan-Mashhad passenger train.

“As you know, we do not have direct railway communication with Iran. There is a railway from Julfa, however, due to the occupation policy of Armenia, we cannot use it,” head of Azerbaijan Railways said. “But we will launch the Nakhchivan-Mashhad passenger train soon – we have already sent cars for the train, and after that, I think, we will open a representative office in Iran.”
