Aggressor country continues attacks on Azerbaijani civilians

At a time when both Azerbaijan and international mediators were looking forward for the resumption of peace talks to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Armenia has once again showed its reluctance to engage in serious negotiations.

Armenia, the aggressor country responsible for the lack of peace in the region, continues to aggravate the situation on the frontline.

On August 7, Armenian Armed Forces broke the ceasefire and targeted the Garalar village of Azerbaijan’s Tovuz region. The intense shelling resulted in wounding of an Azerbaijani teenager Ramil Yusibov. The 13-year-old boy was in the yard of his house when an Armenian shell fell there. Receiving multiple shrapnel wounds, Ramil was urgently operated in the region hospital.

"The shell fell beside me and exploded. A lot of shrapnel hit my legs and I quickly ran into the house," the boy told local media soon after the incident. His father noted that it is the second time the Armenian Armed Forces have fired the teenager. "They do not allow civilians to go out," he added.

Doctors extracted many bullet fragments from the boy`s leg after he was wounded by the Armenian troops.

“At 7 p.m. I received a call and was told that Armenians shot a teenager who was hospitalized with severe wounds. I rushed to work. The boy was 13-year-old Ramin Yusifov who lives in Garalar village,” said Kamaladdin Abbasov, a surgeon at Tovuz central hospital.

“We removed a lot of bullet fragments from Ramin’s leg. We immediately started a surgery. The boy was badly scared,” said the doctor.

A representative of the Tovuz Region Executive Power, in turn, said that the Azerbaijani Armed Forces take measures not to let the civilian population and houses be a target for the Armenian troops. Currently, there is a relative stability in the village.

However, the Armenian aggressors did not stop firing at the Azerbaijani civilians. Next day, a group of Armenian militaries attempted to commit sabotage against the Azerbaijani troops in the Khojavend-Fuzuli direction of the frontline. However, the Azerbaijani Army prevented the sabotage and the enemy suffered losses – one of the sabotage group members was killed.

This loss couldn’t quiet the aggressive nature of the Armenian Armed Forces. They continued breaking the ceasefire along the line of contact between Azerbaijani and Armenian troops. Over the past 24 hours, Armenia’s armed forces have violated the ceasefire by 115 times using large-caliber machine guns.

Most recently, Armenian Armed Forces using 82- and 120-millimeter mortars and grenade launchers, shelled the Alkhanli village of Azerbaijan’s Fuzuli region. As a result of this provocation, the residents of the village Sahiba Guliyeva, 50, and Zahra Guliyeva, 2, were killed. Moreover, the third civilian Servinaz Guliyeva, 52, got seriously wounded.

Obviously, the Armenian leadership aims to harm Azerbaijan in any way, and no calls from international community can change the aggressive stance of the Armenian authorities.

Many international experts are sure that time has long come to exert significant pressure on Armenia for its aggressive policy against Azerbaijan and for its refusal to withdraw from the occupied territories of the country.

Political expert Peter Tase noted that the European Union institutions, governments of European countries and the OSCE should actively condemn the attack of the Armenian armed forces on the civilian population of Azerbaijan.

“The U.S. Secretary of State and Secretary of Department of Treasury should urgently convene a meeting to consider the possibility of imposing economic sanctions against Armenia," Tase told Trend. "The international community remains silent about the crimes against humanity committed by the Armenian government and its corrupt armed forces."

The expert added that international institutions should impose political and economic sanctions against Yerevan until Armenia withdraws its troops from the sovereign territory of Azerbaijan.

Natalie Goulet, French senator and vice-chair of the Senate’s Foreign Affairs Committee, also emphasized the necessity for a firm condemnation of Armenian aggression against Azerbaijan and imposing of sanctions against Armenia.

“Civilians are killed every day in a lot of conflicts. It is unbearable. The Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is one of them,” she told Trend.

“We need now a peace process and probably international forces to keep the ceasefire. We also need a serious will of the international community,” Goulet said, adding that there is no need for another war, especially in the South Caucasus.

Azerbaijani MP Sahib Aliyev, in turn, noted that the military junta in Armenia is distinguished by its cruel attitude against children.

“It is surprising and regrettable why the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs are not only tolerant towards the child murderers, but also patronize them?! Why doesn't the world community want to give a real assessment to the child murderers, the aggressive regime and the military junta?!” Aliyev said.

All the aggression of Armenia against Azerbaijan stems from the desire of the Armenian leadership to gain a foothold in 20 percent of Azerbaijan’s internationally recognized territory that was occupied in early 1990s. For more than two decades the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict fails to be resolved due to Armenia’s unconstructive position and unwillingness to engage in negotiations with Azerbaijan. Thus, the aggressor country continues its attempts to preserve the inadmissible status quo in Nagorno-Karabakh, and Azerbaijani civilians living near the frontline fell victim of this policy of Armenia.
