The Iranian Parliament is more likely to pass the nuclear deal than to do otherwise, Behrooz Bayat, a former consultant at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said.

It would be a catastrophe if the Parliament rejects the deal, Bayat, told Trend on September 14.

He said the Parliament would veer Iran to war with other countries if it rejects the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

JCPOA is another name for the Iran nuclear deal reached between Tehran and the group P5+1 (the US, UK, France, Russia, China, and Germany) on July 14. The deal limits Iran ’s nuclear program in return for lifting international economic sanctions on the country.

US President Barack Obama has succeeded in winning a Senate affirmation of the deal. On the other side of the deal, Iran ’s Special Commission on the JCPOA, a parliamentary body, is studying the deal to cast an expert vote on it to facilitate a final vote at an open session of the Parliament, obliging the Iranian government to implement or reject the deal.

While in the US all have agreed to the deal, if the Iranian Parliament rejects it, the legislative body would be responsible for any following situation, Bayat said.

It would open the way for warmongers such as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and some Arab states to take the scene and push for a full-scale war against Iran, the expert observed. Therefore, the Iranian MPs are unlikely to reject the JCPOA, he concluded.
