More invested in Tajik Rogun HPP
About 474.3 million somoni ($95 million) were invested in the
construction and reconstruction of the Rogun hydro power plant in
Tajikistan.
This sum exceeds the investments into Rogun HPP in 2013 by 202
million somoni (over $40 million), Asia-Plus reported.
The Tajik government plans to allocate 1.4 billion somoni (1 somoni
= $0.1976) to Rogun HPP project from the state budget (33 percent
increase compared to 2013).
In general, Tajikistan spent 702.7 million somoni (more than $140
million) on construction of electric power facilities in
January-August 2014. This sum is 131.6 percent more compared to
investments in this sector in the same period of 2013.
Tajikistan plans to build the Rogun HPP on the Vakhsh River to
resolve the country's problems caused by electricity shortage.
However Uzbekistan, located on the river downstream, is against the
construction. According to the Uzbek side, the construction of the
dam could pose a threat to regional security.
