Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov talked with his Belarusian counterpart Vladimir Makei about the future perspectives of bilateral relations between the two countries, Foreign Ministry reported on May 13.

Azerbaijani State Oil Company (SOCAR) has sent first tanker of Azerbaijani oil to the Belarusian State Concern for Oil and Chemistry (Belneftekhim Concern) by tankers from the Turkish port of Ceyhan to Belarus, Ibrahim Ahmadov, Deputy Head of the SOCAR Public Relations and Event Management Department told, local media reported.

Azerbaijan’s State Oil Company (SOCAR) may supply up to 1 million tons of oil to Belarus in 2020, the Chairman of the Belarusian State Concern for Oil and Chemistry (Belneftekhim Concern) Andrey Ribakov has said while commenting on the meeting between Prime Minister of Belarus Sergei Roumas and SOCAR president Rovnag Abdullayev.

The infrastructure is almost ready for the transportation of Azerbaijani oil to the Mozyr Oil Refinery in Belarus from Ukraine through the Odessa-Brody pipeline, a source within the Belarussian oil pipeline operator “Gomeltransneft Druzhba" JSC has said.

Belarusian Belavia Airlines plans to launch daily flights between Minsk and Baku starting from 2020, the head of the compnay's marketing and foreing economic activity department, Ekaterina Radishchevskaya, has said during the presentation of Azerbaijan’s tourism potential in Minsk.

Azerbaijan and Belarus – two former Soviet republics – have signed a bilateral defence cooperation plan for 2020.

Development of comprehensive cooperation with Belarus is important for Azerbaijan, the country’s Ambassador to Belarus Latif Gandilov said on June 4.
