Turkmenistan is planning to complete the construction of 428 large facilities with a total worth of $9.7 billion and to put them into operation in 2016.

This was announced by Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov at a meeting of the Council of Elders.

He said that the international airport complex in Ashgabat, the international airport in Turkmenabat, the highway/railway bridge across the Amu Darya, the international Atamyrat-Andkhoy railway, and the Olympic complex that has no analogues in Central Asia, hotels in Avaza, four major medical centers in Ashgabat, gas turbine power plants, five major settlements, five villages, and 19 schools are among these large facilities.

In 2016, Turkmenistan scheduled to start construction on more than 220 projects worth about $18 billion in accordance with a large-scale investment program.

Berdymukhamedov said that the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India gas pipeline, a gas-chemical complex, which will produce 467,000 tons of polyethylene and polypropylene, a plant engaged in the production of 600,000 tons of gasoline by processing natural gas, airports in the Atamyrat city of the Lebap province and the Garabogaz city of the Balkan province, and a plant for the production of 1 million tons of cement in the Koytendag district of the Lebap province are among them.

The Turkmen president also outlined the economic prospects of the country. He said that over the years, Turkmenistan's gross domestic product has been increasing rapidly. Only in the first eight months of 2015, GDP growth was 8.3 percent while the volume of capital investments in the country's economy increased by 8.2 percent and the average salary by 10 percent.

The Turkmen president also noted that large industrial facilities are being built, and the construction of the base gas pipeline -- the East-West pipeline -- as well as a major seaport on the Caspian coast are in full swing.

The country has adopted a program of industrial development for a period up to 2030, and the government will take measures to diversify gas exports of Turkmenistan.

The construction of a mining and processing complex engaged in the production of potash fertilizers at the Garlyk potash deposit in the Lebap region is a shining example of the further development of the chemical industry in the country.

A plant for the production of ammonia and urea was built and commissioned in the city of Mary.

The Central Asian country also enjoys huge prospects in developing Garabogaz’s chemical industry. Currently, the construction of a large gas-chemical complex is underway in Kianly. This complex is expected to produce 386,000 tons of polyethylene and 81,000 tons of polypropylene each year.

A large industrial complex, which is under construction in Ovadandepe is one of these major facilities engaged in the production of high-quality gasoline by processing natural gas.
