Criminal situation in Armenia aggravates

Criminal elements usually activate following any revolution and Armenia is not an exception.

Armenian police recognizes that number of crimes has considerably increased, but what is more concerning, people are afraid to go out in the evenings.

As many as 22,551 crimes were registered in Armenia in 2018, while the number of crimes was 20,285 in 2017, according to the Prosecutor General’s Office of Armenia, verelq.am reported.

According to the source, 11,344 cases were recorded in Yerevan. Compared to 2017, the number of crimes in Yerevan increased by 2,266 cases or by 11.2 percent.

The total number of crimes increased due to moderate crimes, which are fixed as 6,700 cases, or 33.7 percent more than in 2017. This is 29.7 percent of the total number of crimes. The number of serious crimes was 3,638, or 16.1 percent of the total number of crimes, that means 33.3 percent growth compared to 2017.

There were 36 murders in 2018. At the same year, the number of minor crimes amounted to 11,989 cases or 53.1 percent of the total number of crimes, which is by 390 cases less than in 2017.

According to official data, the number of cases of theft, fraud, misappropriation and embezzlement increased in 2018 compared with 2017.

Last year saw frequent cases of hooliganism, vehicle theft, robbery and trafficking.

In addition, as many as 317 criminal cases against children were investigated in 2018 instead 265 in 2017.

A significant proportion of crimes against children are sexual in nature.

There were recorded 41 cases of beatings, 15 cases of evasion of the parent from the content of the child.

Each of 10 crimes is identified as "kidnapping" and "intentionally causing grievous bodily harm."

In nine cases, the victim was threatened with murder, grievous bodily harm or destruction of property, eight cases of torture were registered, seven cases of intentional infliction of light bodily harm.

In seven cases, the parent was illegally separated from the child. Three cases of causing death by negligence were recorded, three more were on the article of the Ctminal Code, envisaging "bringing to suicide", two as "murder".

Two newborns were killed by their own mothers in 2018. Two offences were qualifed as "human trafficking"

As many as 305 children were recognized as victims, of which 157 were at the age of up to 12 years old, 43 were at the age of 12 to 14 years old, 69 were at the age of 14 to 16 years old, 36 were at the age of from 16 to 18 years.

In general, the figures show an increase in the number of crimes committed in Armenia.

That is the price of euphoria and populism, the price of irresponsibility for the Armenian public.
