Coop issues in focus of Azerbaijani, Italian talks

Director of Italy's External Information and Security Agency (AISE), Lieutenant-General Adriano Santini is on an official visit in Azerbaijan upon the invitation of Azerbaijan's Minister of National Security, Lieutenant-General Eldar Mahmudov.

The ministry reported that the Italian guests and Lieutenant-General Eldar Mahmudov firstly commemorated national leader Heydar Aliyev by visiting his grave in the Alley of Honor and laid a wreath.

Afterwards, they commemorated outstanding scientist in ophthalmology, academician Zarifa Aliyeva and put flowers on her grave.

They also visited the Alley of Martyrs where they commemorated the Azerbaijanis who gave their lives for Azerbaijan's independence and territorial integrity where they laid a wreath by the Eternal Flame.

Following this, the Minister of National Security received the director of the Italian agency.

The parties discussed energy security, various manifestations of transnational organized crime, in particular, terrorism, extremism, illegal migration and the problems caused by it, as well as prospects for cooperation between the special services of the two countries in light of new realities.

Mahmudov stressed that energy security has regional and international significance, he gave detailed information about the current operational environment and the factors affecting it, events held by Azerbaijan in connection with security issues, Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and its outcomes.

Santini thanked for the hospitality and the conditions created for discussion of current issues in the sphere of ensuring security, expressed satisfaction with the development of relations between the countries, including between relevant structures, and confidence that the dialogue and the exchange of information will be useful for strengthening of relations between Azerbaijan and Italy.

Other issues of mutual interest were also discussed during the meeting.
