Azeri MPs appeal to Turkish parliament for recognition of Khojaly genocide

Working group of the Azerbaijani parliament on Turkey has appealed to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey in connection with recognition of the Khojaly genocide, member of the working group Ganira Pashayeva told reporters on Tuesday.

The appeal has already been sent to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, she said.

Ms Pashayeva noted the appeal contains information on acts of vandalism committed by Armenia, including the Khohaly genocide.

"We noted Azerbaijan takes steps on recognition of the Khojaly genocide and its legal assessment in the world. Earlier, the Congress of Mexico, the Senate of Pakistan have adopted document on recognition of the Khojaly genocide and strongly condemned it. That's why we asked our brothers and sisters in the Grand National Assembly of fraternal Turkey on the eve of the 20th anniversary of the Khojaly genocide to hold discussions in the parliament and adopt legal document on this genocide," she said.

The Decision the Turkish parliament will made, will be a big and important support for Azerbaijan in recognition of the Khojaly genocide and its legal assessment, the MP said.

"Now we wait and hope that our appeal will be considered in the Turkish parliament and decision on the Khojaly genocide will be made," Ms Pashayeva noted.

The Armenian military forces committed genocide in Khojaly on Feb.26, 1992. More than 600 people were killed, including 63 children, 106 women and 70 old men. Some 487 civilians were disabled during the genocide. In addition, 1,275 peaceful residents were taken hostage, while the fate of 150 remains unknown.
