Azerbaijani users among most vulnerable to Internet infections

Almost every third Internet user in Azerbaijan at least once faced web threats in the second quarter of 2016, Kaspersky Lab states. The figure is the highest rate in the world.

Thus, Azerbaijan leads the rating of countries whose users are most vulnerable to getting an infection through the Internet, although the country ranked the 4th in early 2016. Russia and China follow Azerbaijan in the ranking.

One Azerbaijani user faced an average of 10.5 web threats in the second quarter of 2016, the statistics show.

However, Azerbaijan did not enter even the Top 20 list of countries by the extent of threat to get local infection for April-June. That means that the risk to infect computer through files or removable media in the second quarter of the year was considerably less than in other countries.

Every day the number of cyber threats in the Internet increases, and malware becomes more and more powerful.

“These risks and related problems may be avoided by using reliable security solutions with strong technologies that allow recognizing new, still not widely spread threats,” Regional representative of Kaspersky Lab in Azerbaijan , Mushvig Mammadov said.

Additionally, it is advised to regularly back up the data stored on computer. Even if the computer has never been subject to malware infection, damage of hard disk or other components can greatly complicate access to important information in the future. Therefore, data backups should be done on a regular basis.

Web threats pose a broad range of risks, including financial damages, identity theft, loss of confidential information/data, theft of network resources, damaged brand and personal reputation, and erosion of consumer confidence in e-commerce and online banking.
