Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan have started implementing a roadmap for the modernization of border checkpoints, according to the press service of the Uzbek State Customs Committee.

This issue was discussed during a working meeting between representatives of customs, border and other departments of the two countries.

The road map for the reconstruction and modernization of checkpoints, highways and the construction of an adjacent territory on the Kazakh-Uzbek state border was signed during the official visit of Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev to Uzbekistan.

The implementation of the road map will, first of all, significantly increase the capacity of key checkpoints located on the border with Kazakhstan, and create the most favorable conditions for accelerated and comfortable movement of individuals traveling on foot or private cars, and cargo carriers, also using transit routes running through the territories of two neighboring countries.

During 2018-2019 it is planned to carry out reconstruction, expansion, improvement and enhancement of the border infrastructure, including by modernizing large-size X-ray scanning equipment, advanced radiation monitoring systems, improving video surveillance systems, recognizing automobile license plates and weighing freight vehicles in the busiest checkpoints with “international” status located on the Kazakh-Uzbek border.

The working groups of interested parties also visited border checkpoints Gisht-Kuprik, Zangiot and Tashkent, where the primary tasks for further implementation of the approved plan on relevant work were identified and priority steps for joint adoption of effective efforts in this direction were outlined.

The agreements reached between the parties are confirmed in the relevant protocol.
