Azerbaijan’s state energy company SOCAR continues searching areas for the construction of new filling stations in the regions, a source in the company told Trend on January 21.

The source noted SOCAR’s plans on construction of new filling stations remain in force. “However, the main issue is the search of appropriate land areas, and works in this direction are underway,” the source said.

Currently, SOCAR’s 16 filling stations operate in the Azerbaijani territory, two of which are located in the north of the country and the remaining-in Baku.

The source noted SOCAR has already made a decision on the area for construction of its new filling station in Baku. The filling station will be constructed in Ziya Bunyadov Avenue and launched in 2015.

Azerbaijan's energy giant SOCAR, the only producer of oil products in the country includes Azneft Production Association, which runs a number of onshore and offshore oil producing companies, Azerkimya Production Association, and Azerigas Production Association.

SOCAR, which is keen on expanding operations in the retail oil products market abroad, is involved in exploring oil and gas fields, producing, processing, and transporting oil, gas, and gas condensate, marketing petroleum and petrochemical products in the domestic and international markets, and supplying natural gas to industry and the public in Azerbaijan.

Currently, the company owns gas stations in Azerbaijan, Switzerland, Georgia and Ukraine. It has representative offices in Georgia, Turkey, Romania, Austria, Switzerland, Kazakhstan, Britain, Iran, Germany and Ukraine, and trading companies in Switzerland, Singapore, Vietnam, Nigeria, and other countries.
