Azerbaijan’s Cabinet of Ministers has approved the schedule of non-working days in connection with Qurban holiday.

The press secretary of the Cabinet of Ministers Akif Ali said that Qurban holiday will be marked on September 1-2.

"Due to the fact that September 2 is Saturday, September 4, Monday, will also be a non-working day in the country", he said to Report.az

Thus, September 1-5 will be a vacation in connection with Qurban holiday in Azerbaijan.

Qurban holiday is one of the most sacred holidays in the Islamic world. In the lunar-based Islamic calendar, religious holiday falls on the 10th day of Dhu al-Hijjah and lasts for three days.

The history of religious sacrificing dates back to a story happened in the life of Prophet Abraham.

Over the course of this holiday period, Muslims across the globe sacrifice a sheep, ram, cow, or camel in the ceremony.

After Azerbaijan gained independence, according to the law on holidays of the Republic of Azerbaijan adopted by the Azerbaijani Parliament on 27 October 1992, Qurban holiday is celebrated in Azerbaijan at the level of state.
