Spanish athletes happy to perform in Baku - official
Spanish athletes are very happy to perform in the competitions held in Baku, Jose Luis Díez, chargé d’affaires of Spanish embassy in Azerbaijan said.
There are all the conditions for holding sports competitions in the Azerbaijani capital, he told Trend.
“I was in Azerbaijan during the First European Games in 2015," the envoy added. "More than 200 Spanish athletes participated in the Games. We were impressed by the conditions created for all the athletes, as well as with sports facilities."
He emphasized that the opening ceremony of the FIG World Challenge Cup in Artistic Gymnastics in Baku was magnificent.
Díez also said the Spanish gymnasts will compete for medals on the final day of the FIG World Challenge Cup.
“I hope Spanish gymnasts can win several medals,” he added.
The FIG World Challenge Cup in Artistic Gymnastics kicked off in Baku on February 19 and is to end on February 21. As many as 45 male and 22 female gymnasts will compete for medals in apparatus finals of the World Challenge Cup.
In general, athletes from 19 countries are to participate in the event.
Men’s and women’s qualifications were held on the first two days of the competitions. The last day men's and women's apparatus finals will be held.
