Azerbaijan, Brazil discuss prospects for cooperation between Paralympic Committees

President of the Azerbaijani National Paralympic Committee Ilgar Rahimov has met with his Brazilian counterpart Andrew Parsons as part of his visit to Lyon, France.

Parsons hailed cooperation between Paralympic committees of the two countries. He also lauded Azerbaijani paralympians' achievements at the London Games, where a team of 21 athletes claimed a clutch of 21 medals.

He recalled his meeting with Azerbaijani Minister of Youth and Sports Azad Rahimov, saying that they explored ways of boosting the bilateral cooperation.

Earlier, Azad Rahimov was on a visit to Brazil, where he met with Brazilian Minister of Sports Aldo Rebelo and Andrew Parsons, and discussed the current state of bilateral relations in the field of sports, stressing the great potential for cooperation in this field.

Touching on the first European Olympic Games to be held in 2015 in Azerbaijan and the Summer Olympic Games to be held in 2016 in Brazil, the importance of exchange of experience between the two countries in this field was emphasized.

The sides also discussed the possibility of participation of children and coaches from various groups and teams in seminars in Brazil in order to develop children's football as well as participation of Azerbaijani youth in the program for volunteer training for the World Championships to be heldin Brazil in 2014.

Recall that the 6th International Paralympic Committee's (IPC) World Championships in athletics kicked off in Lyon, France on July 19 and Azerbaijan has already won silver in this championship.
