Photo exhibition opens as part of second puppet festival in Baku

The Jafar Jabbarly State Theater Museum starts a portable photo exhibition as part of the second international puppet theater festival "Cirtdan" in Baku, Azerbaijani Culture and Tourism Ministry said.

Photos, presented at the exhibition, are reflecting activity of Azerbaijan State Puppet Theater named after Abdullah Shaig, and Nakhchivan, Ganja, Salyan, Gah state puppet theaters.

The exhibition also presents posters of the Azerbaijan State Puppet Theater of 1930, the photo materials that reflect regional touring of the theater company in those times.

The second international puppet theater festival, organized under "The Azerbaijani Theater in 2009-2019" State Program, opened in Baku on November 9 and will last until November 16.

The festival is co-organized by Azerbaijan`s Ministry of Culture and Tourism, International Puppet Theaters Association (UNIMA), and the Abdullah Shaig State Puppet Theater.

The festival presents performances of leading puppet theaters from several countries in different genres that are of interest to both children and adults.

The festival features performances by the Azerbaijan Abdullah Shaig State Puppet Theater and the Gakh State Puppet Theater, as well as theaters from the United Kingdom, Japan, Italy, Bulgaria, Croatia, Switzerland, Hungary, and Tatarstan with some 12 performances.

Azerbaijan's Abdullah Shaig State Puppet Theater was created in 1931 with the first performance staged in 1932.

The Theater has participated in international puppet theater festivals (Tashkent, 1979, Bombay, 1980) and the South Caucasus (Yerevan, 1982, Tbilisi, 1984).

The Theater performs in Azerbaijani and Russian languages for children and adults alike. Plays of Azerbaijani, Russian and western European playwrights are staged in the theater, including "Haji Gara" by Mirza Fatali Akhundov, "The Doctor In Spite of Himself" by Jean Baptiste Moliere, "Almaz" by Jafar Jabbarli, and "Big Ivan" by Sergey Obraztsov.
