German gymnast: Baku 2015 excellent experience

German athlete Sophie Scheder says the Baku 2015 European Games has been an excellent experience for her.

“I am very glad to take part in these Games,” she told Trend June 21.

Scheder said Azerbaijan has organized the Games at a very high level, and all the conditions have been created for the athletes.

“And the opening ceremony was great,” she said.

Scheder noted that the National Gymnastic Arena, which is hosting the events, is spacious and modern, and said the spectators’ support for athletes shows that gymnastics enjoys great interest in Azerbaijan.

The athlete also said it is her first time in Azerbaijan, noting that she liked the country very much.

“Baku is a modern city, I especially liked the Icherisheher. You have a very tasty national cuisine. People here are very warm and hospitable. I am very pleased to be in Azerbaijan,” said the gymnast in conclusion.

The European Games that kicked off in Baku June 12, will last till June 28. There is a total of 20 sports at Baku 2015: 16 Olympic sports and four non-Olympic sports.

More than 6,000 athletes from across Europe came to Baku to represent their nations over 17 days of competition. Baku was awarded the games by the European Olympic Committees (EOC) in December 2012.
