Baku Games 2015 to be presented in Monaco

The inaugural Baku European Games due in 2015 will be presented in Monaco on November 8.

Azerbaijan Youth and Sports Minister Azad Rahimov join the Peace and Sport International Forum to be held in Monte Carlo, Monaco, on November 6-8.

The forum is held for the seventh time at the initiative of the Prince of Monaco Albert II.

The forum is aimed to develop approaches and provide assistance to the people and governments in maintaining peace and spread peace initiatives through sport.

The forum will involve more than 700 leaders in the politics and sports spheres from more than 100 countries, heads of international organizations, representatives of the scientific community, who will discuss issues for strengthening international sports cooperation, and increasing the volume of investment in sports.

The program of this forum is "Sport, an Investment for Society". Delegates will explore the untapped potential of investing in sport for the benefit of society through an ambitious and dynamic program.

Azerbaijan will host the first European Games in its capital from June 12, 2015. The Games will be a multi-sport event for elite athletes from the 49 Olympic nations of Europe and will be held every four years.

Earlier in October, Baku started the countdown to the inaugural games. The tournament is set to be a major event in the international sporting calendar; Baku 2015 is expecting around 5,600 competitors vying in a total of 18 sports.

At present events confirmed for Baku 2015 include such established Olympic sports as swimming, diving, cycling, boxing and gymnastics, as well as new formats for sports such as 3x3 basketball and beach soccer, providing an exciting blueprint for future major sporting events.
