Azerbaijan will further upgrade its road infrastructure as a part of the preparation work for hosting the first European Olympic Games in Baku in 2015.

Head of the Azeryolservis JSC operating under the Azerbaijani Transport Ministry, Javid Gurbanov , stated that the country already has a relevant experience.

"The work carried out in Baku for the improvement and creation of a necessary road transport infrastructure as part of the preparation for the Eurovision-2012 song contest, will be a good experience in preparation for the first European Olympic Games," Gurbanov said.

He said that the length of the central roads of Baku is 1,500 kilometres, and together with the municipal roads and those of Baku's roads, the figure reaches 5,000 kilometres.

"This makes up a quite considerable volume of work," Gurbanov said. "We will try to realize a decent work for preparation for the first European Olympic Games."

According to Gurbanov, a relevant headquarters led by Deputy Transport Minister Musa Panahov was established in the Transport Ministry as a part of the preparation for this great sporting event. Gurbanov added that all structures of the ministry are included at the headquarters.

The decision to hold the inaugural European Olympic Games in 2015 in Baku was taken by the General Assembly of the European Olympic Committee in December 2012, and was overwhelmingly supported by the European sports and Olympic family. The country already established an organizing committee to organize high level inaugural European Games in Baku.
