Azerbaijan’s renewable surge signals regional energy leadership

The bulk of this progress comes from hydropower and solar power, with the country wisely leveraging its natural topography and high solar irradiation potential. Electricity generated from hydropower plants reached 1,860 million kWh in 2025, 2.1 times more than in 2023. Even more striking is the growth in solar power production: from just 35 million kWh in 2023 to 314.6 million kWh in 2025, marking an astonishing nine-fold increase.
