Armenians kill own soldiers in occupied Karabakh

As in the past, today the situation in the Armenian armed units leaves much to be desired. Sending their sons to army service has become a challenging task for an Armenian family, as they there is no guarantee for them to be back safe and sound.

Last week reports urged that murder of two more soldiers in the Armenian army were hidden from public.

The reports say that Armenian soldiers in the Armenian military units deployed in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan killed two fellow soldiers – Vladimir Melkonyan and Vartan Khachatryan. However, the parents of the late servicemen were given false information saying that their children were killed in a fighting position.

A man named Gaboyan, interrogated as a witness, said during the investigation that both servicemen were in armored jackets. However, during the inspection it was found out that Melkonyan and Khachatryan’s armored clothes were not damaged and had no holes. This proved the validity of suspicions that Armenian soldiers were killed not by the enemy, but by fellow soldiers because of conflict between them.

A criminal case on premeditated murder was opened on both facts and two persons were arrested. However, the Armenian Defense Ministry did not give any explanation for the incidents.

Official statements say that 54 servicemen were killed in the Armenian armed forces for various reasons and 88 were injured in January to October 2017. However, independent sources report that this figure is 2-3 times higher.

Yesterday, information was spread about another incident – two Armenian servicemen suffered firearms injuries due to negligence while on duty.

One social media user wrote that two Armenian servicemen Charents Nazaryan and Armen Arakelyan, who were on duty in a settlement in Madaghiz district in the Azerbaijani territories occupied by Armenia, suffered gunshot wounds. The soldiers claim they were injured due to negligence when they were reloading their weapons after returning from duty. Currently, the incident is being investigated by army officers, which very often leads to concealment of facts.

Thus, the chaos in the Armenian armed units continues to take lives and injure Armenian soldiers. Last month, The Peace Dialogue organization reported that as many as 45 death cases took place in the Armenian army within the first nine months of this year. The statistics showed that most of these deaths occurred in non-combat conditions. Lack of discipline, hazing, and health problems are the main reasons that kill Armenian soldiers in their armed units.
