Armenian army cannot control soldiers

By Rashid Shirinov

The cases of Armenian soldiers’ evasion of service and willful abandonment of combat positions became more common in recent months. The soldiers, mainly those who serve for the Armenian armed forces located in the occupied regions of Azerbaijan, leave their military units in defiance of the military statute, and Armenian army cannot put an end to this trend.

For instance, a soldier of Armenian Armed Forces G. Piriposyan, who serves in a military unit located in Azerbaijan’s occupied region of Khojavand, self-willedally left the military unit on August 4. Two days later, four other Armenian soldiers willfully left military units located in the territory of another occupied region of Azerbaijan - Tartar. Three of them, Sergey Mardanyan, Sagir Avakyan and Ivan Vanesyan were punished in accordance with the military statute, while the fourth soldier admitted that he was hungry and went to find food.

Another incident took place in one of the units of the Armenian army located in the occupied Fuzuli region of Azerbaijan. On the night of August 7, a senior commander Khalatyan willfully left the combat position. Khalatyan’s fellow officers informed that he was drunk.

The most interesting story happened in another military unit located in occupied Khojavand. During the sudden check of the high command of the artillery battalion, it was found that three soldiers were absent. The Armenian officer tried to deceive the leadership of the military unit by presenting other soldiers instead of the absent ones.

All these stories show that anarchy and chaos reign in the national army of Armenia.

Moreover, many Armenian soldiers do not receive even the minimum of the necessary provision in their military units. They are fed with poor-quality food, while unsanitary conditions prevail in military units; contagious diseases, especially the infectious ones are wide-spread there.

In addition to these terrible conditions, the Armenian army officers often abuse their soldiers, as well as steal and sell their clothes and food. There are also many deaths of Armenian soldiers in ‘mysterious’ circumstances.

Last year’s April fights between Armenian and Azerbaijani armed forces also confirmed the grave situation in the Armenian army. As it turned out, Armenian soldiers were dying not having even bullets, and the tanks could not go into battle, as they had water instead of fuel. Thus, Armenian soldiers had no choice but to leave combat positions and flee.
