The meeting between Azerbaijani Foreign Minister and his Polish counterpart Witold Waszczykowski, who is on official visit to Azerbaijan, was held in Baku.

The prospects of development of bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Poland, as well as current world and regional issues were discussed at the meeting.

At the joint press conference Mammadyarov said more than 10 documents between Azerbaijan and Poland are under consideration.

“To date, 41 documents have been signed between the two states, and more than 10 documents are under consideration,” Mammadyarov said.

The Minister noted that the relations between Azerbaijan and Poland are based on deep and long-standing ties. The two countries closely cooperate in the framework of international organizations, such as NATO, the OSCE, he added.

The FM noted that during the meeting with his Polish counterpart he expressed gratitude to the Polish side for supporting Azerbaijan's position in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, adding that Poland has always taken an unambiguous position on this issue.

He also noted that in late October, representatives of the European Commission will visit Azerbaijan to discuss a new agreement on strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and the EU.

"Azerbaijani is ready to discuss relations with the EU in all spheres, and in this respect the new agreement is of strategic importance for us," the minister added.

The document will replace the 1996 partnership and cooperation agreement and should better take account of the shared objectives and challenges the EU and Azerbaijan face today. The deal will follow the principles endorsed in the 2015 review of the European neighborhood policy and offer a renewed basis for political dialogue and mutually beneficial cooperation between the EU and Azerbaijan.

Addressing the conference Waszczykowski said that Azerbaijan is an important country for Poland in terms of energy, tourism and other spheres.
