CMO Chairman visits Tajikistan

Chairman of the Caucasian Muslim Board Sheikh-ul-Islam Allahashukur Pashazade paid a visit to Dushanbe, Tajikistan on July 21 to attend an international conference entitled "Islam is against extremism and terrorism."

As part of his visit to the country, Sheikh-ul-Islam first met the head of the Committee on Religious Affairs and Regulation of National Traditions and Rituals of Tajikistan, Sulaymon Davlatov.

At the meeting, also attended by Azerbaijani Ambassador to Tajikistan Abbasali Hasanov, the sides discussed the Dushanbe conference.

The July 22-23 conference was attended by representatives of 34 countries along with members of international and regional organizations.

It was organized by the Committee on Religious Affairs, Traditions, and Ceremonies of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan.

Sheikh-ul-Islam Pashazade made a speech at the conference, conveying the sincere greetings and best wishes of President Ilham Aliyev to President Emomali Rahmon and the people of Tajikistan. He stressed the importance of strong friendly relations between the peoples of two countries.

Pashazade also talked about the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, during which Armenia captured Nagorno-Karabakh and seven surrounding regions from Azerbaijan in a war that followed the Soviet breakup in 1991. More than 20,000 Azerbaijanis were killed and nearly 1 million were displaced as a result of the war.

He stressed that for more than 25 years, the people of the country lived with the heavy consequences of the occupation and ethnic cleansing policy.

Pashazade went on to extend his deep condolences to people of Tajikistan regarding the country’s recent natural disaster.

On behalf of Azerbaijani Muslims, the chairman of Caucasian Muslims Board presented a financial assistance package in the amount of $10,000 to the families affected by recent floods.
