Former US envoy Bryza appointed head of Estonian think-tank
Former US Ambassador to Azerbaijan Matthew Bryza has been appointed director of Estonia’s International Center for Defense Studies, according to the Estonian defense ministry’s website.
Bryza will coordinate academic issues as well as oversee overall work of the center, it said.
Bryza, a former US Deputy Assistant Secretary, was appointed by President Barack Obama as ambassador to Azerbaijan bypass the US Senate in December 2010 under a so-called recess appointment. But he had to end his mission in the country and return to Washington in early January 2012 after his final approval in the Senate was blocked by several pro-Armenian senators claiming his bias toward Azerbaijan.
