Ex-Polish Premier voices support to detained Georgian minister

Former Polish Prime Minister Jaroslaw Kaczynski said that the prison living conditions of ex-premier of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko are much better than those of her Georgian counterpart Vano Merabishvili.

Kaczynski made the remark following his visit to Prison No. 9 to meet with Merabishvili.

"What I saw after seeing his living conditions was discouraging," he said.

The Polish politician called on Georgian authorities to provide "proper and adequate" detention conditions for the former prime minister.

He expressed support for Merabishvili and demanded a review of his case in a manner "as transparent as possible". "Not a shadow of doubt should surround his guilt," he said.

Kaczynski met on Monday with Georgia's President and Prime-Minister.

Merabishvili is accused of vote-buying, embezzlement and the misappropriation of funds through abuse of office and abuse of power during the dispersal of an opposition rally in 2011.
