Ukrainian PM: It's early to talk about any delay in vote count
Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov has said that it is too early to talk about a delay in the counting of votes and drawing up results of parliamentary elections in Ukraine, Kyiv Post reported.
"According to Ukrainian legislation, the Central Election Commission has 15 days to announce official election results. This period has not yet expired, so it's wrong to talk about any delay in the counting process," the government's press service quoted him as saying at a meeting with an EU delegation led by former Polish President Aleksander Kwasniewski and former European Parliament President Pat Cox on Wednesday.
Azarov said that the problem with the election results in five constituencies must be regulated by law, including through the holding of repeat elections in these constituencies.
"It's not fundamentally important to us who wins there. It's important that the decisions and results be legitimate," he said.
Azarov said that the elections in Ukraine were transparent and democratic and that it was possible to expect a fairly quick vote count, but, in his opinion, this process was delayed in a number of election districts because of the actions of the opposition.
