Iran seizes record amount of drugs

Some 403 tons of narcotics have been seized in Iran since the beginning of the Iranian year (starting March 21, 2018), the head of the National Drug Control Agency Massoud Zahedian said.
"This figure is a world record," the head of the National Drug Control Agency Massoud Zahedian said.
"Some 500 tons of drugs were seized in 2017 and 1290 drug traffickers were detained," he added.
Zahedian stressed the importance of strengthening the country's borders as a part of the fight against drugs and added that drugs produced since 2001 have increased from 185 tons to 9,000 tons.
