Gas companies in Turkey allowed to start direct local sales
Under the new law "On Oil and Gas", adopted by the Turkish Parliament, companies engaged in gas production in Turkey, will be able to sell the produced gas on the domestic market themselves, Trend news agency reported referring to the Sabah newspaper on Monday.
The law will come into force from Jan.1, 2013. The companies are not allowed to supply gas to residential buildings.
In addition, under the new law, consumption of gas by subscribers of apartments will be limited. Thus, each subscriber will be able to consume no more than 300,000 cubic meters of gas a year.
Annual gas production in Turkey was 674 million cubic meters in 2011.
