Baku’s International Mugham Center hosted a literary-musical evening devoted to the 50th anniversary of documentary "Shur".

The event was co-organized by Mədəniyyət’ TV channel and ‘Azerbaijan’ TV and radio channel, Trend Life reported.

The film was shot in 1967. Director and scriptwriter of the film is Arif Gaziyev, operator Rasim Ojaqov.

The film features a symphonic mugham "Shur" by Fikret Amirov. The conductor is a prominent Azerbaijani conductor Niyazi Hajibeyov.

Addressing the event, Film's director Arif Gaziyev, People's Artist of Azerbaijan, mugham master Alibaba Mammadov and main operator of the Azerbaijan television, Fazil Khadiyev shared memories about working on the movie.

The honored worker of arts, recipient of "Shohrat" award, Gaziyev said that he created about 200 programs for national television, but this movie has a special significance in his biography.

"I filmed my first movie "Shur" when I was 35. Then, there were not any film dedicated to mugham. It was the first musical that featured Fikret Amirov` s symphonic mugam, and I was first who synthesized mugham symphony and dance. For the film I invited such singers as Islam Rzayev, Abulfat Aliyev, Alibaba Mammadov and Arif Babayev. This film was the winner of nine international festivals of television films. 'Shur" movie won in nomination "the best film" at Kiev Film Festival ", he said.

Further, guests enjoyed performances of honored artists Nuriya Huseynova, Firuz Sakhavet, Sabuhi Imanov, mugham singers Ayten Magerramova, Abgul Mirzaliyev, Ayshan Mekhdiyeva as well as Azad Shukurov, who performed beautiful ghazals.

"Shur" is one of the major mughams and seven main modes in Azerbaijani music.

One of the most valuable monuments of the material and spiritual culture of the nation contains seven main modes - Rast, Shur, Segah Shushtar, Bayaty-Shiraz, Chahargah, Humayun and three collateral kinds - shahnaz, sarendj, chargah in some other form.
