Baku says U.S. Department of State’s statements on Azerbaijan groundless

The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry made a statement, which reads that the U.S Department of State's statements on human rights situation in the country unfounded.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Elman Abdullayev said the statements made by a representative of the U.S Department of State on August 27-28 are unfounded and unacceptable.

Such statements, which have a political implication and are aimed at interfering in Azerbaijan's internal affairs to exert political pressure on the country, do not reflect reality, he said on August 29.

Abdullayev further added that instead of looking for problems in other countries, the U.S. must resolve problems in the field of human rights inside own country.

"The events in Ferguson, Missouri, demonstrated once again that having turned human rights into an instrument of its foreign policy, the U.S is far from complying with the obligations on fundamental human rights and freedoms, including freedom of assembly, preventing separation by ethnic and racial factors, disproportionate use of force by law enforcement agencies and excessive violence," he said.
