Govt issues protest to Tanzania
Azerbaijan has expressed a protest to Tanzania over the indication of Nagorno Karabakh, an Azerbaijani region where ethnic Armenians are running a self-proclaimed republic, as a separate country on the website of Tanzanian Foreign Ministry, Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry spokesman Elman Abdullayev has said.
"The Azerbaijani embassy in Egypt, also accredited to Tanzania, has sent a diplomatic note to this country's Foreign Ministry. Azerbaijan demanded from Tanzania a swift removal of this information from its Foreign Ministry's website," Abdullayev said.
Nagorno Karabakh has been occupied by Armenian armed forces since a 1990s war that killed an estimated 30,000 people and ousted up to one million Azerbaijanis from their homes. The separatist regime in Nagorno Karabakh declared so-called independence at the time of the Soviet collapse in 1991, defying international law.
