Tashkent, Tokyo discuss ties

Uzbek Foreign Minister, Abdulaziz Kamilov and Japanese Deputy Foreign Minister Sinsuke Sugiyama discussed the status and prospects of development of Uzbek-Japanese relations in the format of Central Asia + Japan dialogue on March 10, Uzbekistan's Foreign Ministry reported.
Sinsuke Sugiyama has arrived in Tashkent to participate in
regular bilateral consultations.
During the meeting the parties also discussed some topical
international and regional problems.
Japanese ambassador to Uzbekistan, Fumihiko Kato attended the meeting.
Diplomatic relations between Uzbekistan and Japan were established in late January 1992.
The volume of Japanese investments in Uzbekistan's economy currently exceeds $2.3 billion. Japan invests in projects in the sphere of railway transport, oil and gas, energy, mining, motor industry, telecommunications, electronics and textile industries.
Representative offices of large Japanese corporations such as Mitsui, Mitsubishi, Itochu, Marubeni have been opened in Uzbekistan.
