Uzbek delegation to join general debate of 68th session of UN General Assembly

The Uzbek delegation headed by Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov will take part in the general debate of the 68th session of the UN General Assembly on September 26-28, the statement of Uzbek Foreign Ministry press service said.

According to the statement, the general political debate started yesterday. This debate is the main stage of the 68th session of the UN General Assembly. General Assembly session will last till October 1. It is expected that these days 89 heads of states will speak from the UN tribune. 42 delegations will be represented at the level of heads of governments and 61 at the level of Foreign Ministers.

According to the UN, the main topics during the general debate of the 68th session are the post-2015 development agenda, as well as the situation in Syria. In total, during the work of the session 175 items on the agenda will be considered.

The UN General Assembly established in 1945 is the main deliberative organ of the organization. It consists of representatives of all Member States of the General Assembly. Each of them has one vote. Decisions on important issues, such as those on peace and security or the admission of new members, require a two-thirds majority. The other issues are decided by simple majority.

John William Ashe of Antigua and Barbuda was elected as the chairman of the UN General Assembly for the period of the 68th session.

As reported earlier, the Permanent Representative of Uzbekistan to the United Nations Diler Khakimov was appointed as the deputy chairman of the UN General Assembly during the 68th session. He will lead the sessions of the General Assembly in the absence of the chairman.
