Uzbekistan India eye areas of interaction

Uzbek Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov and Indian Foreign Minister Salman Khurshid discussed current issues of Uzbek-Indian relations, promising areas of interaction between the Foreign Ministries both in bilateral format and within international organizations.

The Uzbek Foreign Ministry reported the meeting that took part during the Indian Foreign Minister's official visit to Tashkent, considered views on different issues of regional character.

Currently, India is one of the largest partners of Uzbekistan in the sphere of information technologies, light and textile industry, pharmaceuticals and production of automobile parts.

According to the official statistics, trade turnover between Uzbekistan and India increased by 22.5 per cent (to $202.2 million) in 2012 compared to 2011. Uzbekistan exported about $37.8 million worth of commodity (by 1.7 times of growth) to India and import of Indian goods amounted to $163.4 million (by 15 times of growth).

Over 60 enterprises with participation of Indian capital, including over 10 enterprises with fully participation of Indian capital were created in Uzbekistan. In addition, nearly 20 Indian companies and organizations acting in different spheres of production and sale of pharmaceutical products were accredited in this country.
