Uzbekistan, Germany to boost cooperation

Uzbek Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov and the Governing Mayor of Berlin, Klaus Wowereit, who is in Tashkent at the invitation of khokimyat (administration) of the capital, discussed the further expansion of inter-regional cooperation in the context of the Uzbek-German dialogue on May 27, the Foreign Ministry said.

The parties noted that interaction between Tashkent and Berlin occupies a special place in progressively strengthening bilateral relations between Uzbekistan and Germany.

Regular contacts between representatives of governments, financial institutions, educational institutions, scientists and culture figures may consistently develop sister relations between the two capitals established in 1996.

The meeting was attended by Ambassador of Germany Aristide Emil Fenster.

Germany is one of the main trade partners of Uzbekistan in Europe. Investment projects exceeding one billion euros have been undertaken in Uzbekistan in cooperation with the leading German companies.

As financial and technical cooperation, the German government has provided more than 300 million Euros to Uzbekistan, including 248.2 million euros in the framework of financial cooperation and about 58.4 million Euro in the framework of technical cooperation.

In Uzbekistan, there are more than 100 enterprises established with the participation of German investors as well as accredited representatives of some 50 German firms and companies.

In 2012, the Uzbek-German trade turnover, according to the official figures of Uzbekistan, amounted to $497.2 million.
