Iran dismisses plane arson at Damascus airport

Reports of some Arab media outlets about arson of an Iranian cargo plane at the airport in Damascus, is not true, a diplomatic source at the Iranian Embassy in Syria said, Iranian news agency Afkar News reported on Friday.

According to the source, falsity of this information was also confirmed by Syrian authorities.

In addition, as Tehran Imam Khomeini International Airport reported, over the past two days, no flight has been carried out from Iran to Syria, the source said.

Yesterday Al Arabiya TV channel reported that an Iranian cargo plane was set on fire in the Syrian capital of Damascus, where clashes are underway between the government forces and armed opposition.

Anti-government protests have continued in Syria for about two years. According to UN, the total number of victims of the conflict in Syria exceeds 70,000 with around three million in need of humanitarian assistance. The Syrian authorities say they oppose the well-armed militants.
