A member of Rasht city council has expressed objection to Caspian Sea water transfer plan to Semnan province.

Reza Rasouli has addressed the President Hassan Rouhani about the issue before his visit to Rasht for inauguration of Qazvin –Rasht railway, Trend reports citing ILNA.

"The decisions to construct dams and other marine structures were wrong and turned the country's water resources to salt marsh. Lake Urmia is the similar result of such experiments," he added.

Speaking of the Caspian Sea water transfer bill, the official said "we're making a big irreversible mistake".

"History has shown that mixing manmade structures with nature is a warning, and we're still witnessing the results of damaging natural resources today. We shoul think of the future generations," he said.

He added that the assignment of funds in the next Iranian year (starts March 21, 2019) budget plan to Caspian Sea water transfer project, has legal problems, in addition to environmental issues.

The effect of the water transfer from Caspian Sea on the climate has not been reviewed so far, he added.

The official noted the water transfer from the Caspian Sea would violate people's right in Gilan Province.

"I use my legal rights as an Iranian citizen and Gilan to object to the incorrect project that would endanger national resources and environment through legal actions," he said.
