About 268,000 tons of coal was mined in Tajikistan in the first four months of this year.

The preliminary needs of coal industry enterprises in 2018 are 920,000 tons, budget organizations – 57,200 tons, Dushanbe-2 TPP and boiler-houses – 1.2 million tons, according to the Tajik Ministry of Industry and New Technologies.

This volume includes residues from the heating season of 2017-2018, located in the thermal power plant’s storage facilities.

The schedule of coal supplies for heat and power plants for the upcoming heating season in an additional volume of 1.1 million tons is ready and being implemented at the moment.

Meanwhile, according to preliminary data of the ministry, before May 1 of this year, 268,000 tons of coal was mined in the republic, which is 28,000 tons more compared to the same period in 2017.

Before Tajikistan gained independence, the country produced up to 309,000 tons of coal. According to the Ministry of Industry, at present coal in the republic is used as fuel by more than 200 enterprises.

Tajikistan increased the coal production volume by dozens of times since early 2000s. The Central Asian country produced a record volume of coal – more than 1.7 million tons. Internal needs of socio-economic sectors of Tajikistan in coal for 2018 are estimated at 2 million tons.
